WEEK 8 RECAP

Better late than never, here is your week eight recap!

1. DC Khaleesi (7-1) was helped this week by recent pickup Terrance Williams, who overshot his projection and had a great game with the Cowboys against the Lions. The Broncos-Redskins game had Miranda on the edge of her seat for a while, as the Broncos seemed to be getting their asses handed to them. The white horse remained triumphant, though, with a second-half turnaround and win.

2. Crannogmen (5-3) barely edged out Betsy, overcoming a 20 point deficit due to losing fishbowl (Benedict Cumberbatch, anyone?). Colin Kaepernick had a strong game against the Jaguars, and despite the win I bet Luke wishes he had played TE Jimmy Graham, who had a surprisingly strong performance dealing with a foot injury that has taken down Billy Fettweis.

3. Think Like a Manning (5-3) lucked out in their matchup this week against our token Taco, who is studying for the LSAT. Even though most of his players scored fewer than 10 points each, Dana pulled out a win with 20 bonus points and a strong game from QB Matthew Stafford.

4. Love Me Harbaughs (5-3) had an amazing game by Drew Brees and 20 bonus points from fishbowl, but it wasn’t enough to edge out Luke in this matchup. A poor performances from TE Zach Ertz and only two points from the Seattle Kicker allowed Luke to take the lead and ultimately give Betsy her third loss of the season.

5. Sunday Funday (5-3) was taken on a wild roller coaster of emotions this week by her beloved Redskins. RGIII and Alfred Morris tried as hard as they could, but could not revive the wild hogs of old, and the offensive line was ultimately not strong enough to beat Denver. Cleveland WR Josh Gordon had an amazing week, which buoyed Lauren’s score, but not enough to beat Jamie’s team.

6.  Speaking of Jamie’s team, Team(youbetta)TWERK (5-3) had a great week, coming back after a devastating loss to the Bukkickers. Aaron Rodgers and Reggie Bush performed well as expected, and the Cincinnati defense came through with two defensive touchdowns. All this combined gave Jamie a win this week, putting him in 6th place.

7. The winning streak continues for Tebow’s Tingle (4-4), whose victory this week over Billy’s team showed Amanda what it feels like to be on the winning side of a bonus points victory. Adrian Peterson was back on his game this week, but it was nothing compared to Amanda’s fishbowl skills. Giants kicker Josh Brown scored more points than Peterson this week, and this is why Miranda continues to believe that kickers are vital to a teams success.

8. Bukkickers (4-4) lucked out with C. Johnson this week, whose blue uniform really brought out Billy’s eyes. J. Bell, wearing the same uniform, also brought out Billy’s eyes and brought in some points for his fantasy team. The case could also be made for G. Tate’s team colors being a complement to the Mykonos blue of B. Fettweis’s baby blues, though it might stretch his wardrobe a little. What were we talking about?

9. The winning streak for the Double Ent-Andres (3-5) was finally busted this week with a decisive loss to Anthony’s team. Julius Thomas injured his ankle and left the game, and Amendola could not make up for the Patriots sucking. Eddie Lacy and Cam Newton had strong games, but all his wheeling and dealing wasn’t enough to bring Jon a win this week.

10. Victory was sweet for Touchdown Yeezus (3-5) this week, who was helped by 20 bonus points from fishbowl. Top performers were Tony Romo and Darren McFadden, and Gronk did his best with what he got from the Patriots, but underperformed this week. Anthony would have won without the bonus points, but they certainly don’t hurt as he climbs his way to the top.

11. 50ShadesOfRay(Lewis) (1-7) started 2 players on bye-week and one who was out with an injury, but she still had strong performances from the Denver defense and Wes Welker. This team is pretty strong and would be even stronger if the team owner wasn’t currently studying for the LSAT!

12. Like Tom Brady and the Patriots, Lightning McCoy (1-7) is trying her best but fell short this week in her matchup against DC Khaleesi. Despite mistaking them for the Saints, the St. Louis Rams had a good game and their defense outperformed their projected score. Krittika is not worried though, because in a beauty contest her team would win, hands-down.

WEEK 7 RECAP

Raise your hand if you just realized that winners of rivalry week get 50 bonus points added to their scores! Okay, let's get down to business. We have been through two straight weeks of players dropping like flies from various injuries, causing much stress and anxiety among our league-mates (looking at you, Billy. I know how stressed you get about marching band games). Despite these trials and tribulations, rivalry week had many close calls, and all in all it was a fun week for football. Let's get down to business with your weekly recap before heading into week 8.

1. DC Khaleesi (6-1) was happy to see Peyton Manning back to his usual self. The team’s performance was a mixed bag, but Miranda greatly benefited from surprise TDs for Eifert and Chris Johnson. She squeaked out the closest match up with bonus points, the 2nd time which she has beaten Anthony due to bonus points.
2. Love Me Harbaughs’ (5-2) win streak came to an end last week. Vincent Jackson continues to be the only receiver Mike Glennon will throw too, and Ryan Mathews put up back-to-back solid games. Unfortunately,T-Rich was benched after a fumble, Andre Ellington didn’t get any snaps for Arizona, and Betsy lost Reggie Wayne for the season. Luckily, she has TY Hilton eager for a full work load.

3. Sunday Funday (5-2) had two reasons to be happy about Washington’s win last week because not only are they alive in the NFC East, but RGIII is starting to look like his old self. Too bad Roy Helu vultured 3 TD’s from Alfred Morris. One has to wonder if goal line duties have changed hands.

4. Think Like A Manning (4-3) couldn’t survive the rematch from Week 6. Injuries also took a toll on Dana’s team with Nick Foles getting a concussion and Jermichael Finley’s season-ending spinal injury. Even with these injuries, Dana was still so close and only lost by 11 points (before Amanda's 50 points bonus for winning Rivalry Week).

5. Crannogmen (4-3) is on at two game win streak. Kaepernick is finally running again, and Jacquizz Rodgers is capitalizing on Steven Jackson’s injury. Jordy Nelson should be getting more looks with the loss of Finley, and benching CJ Spiller with his lingering injury are positive signs for the team.

6. Bukkickers (4-3) is on a three game win streak. Calvin Johnson seems to be back in Megatron mode and Matt Ryan seems to be able to throw to anyone. Billy has to be hoping that Ray Rice has a huge game due soon, and Golden Tate should be better when Percy Harvin returns and takes on the opposing team's’ best defender.

7. TEAM(youbetta)TWERK! (4-3) had an overall disappointing week, scoring 20 points less than projected. Justin Blackmon cooled off, and Larry Fitzgerald had a tough matchup against Seattle, the league’s best defense. The good news is that Aaron Rodgers seems to be able throw to anyone since he has lost 3 of his top receivers the past 2 weeks.

8. Double Ent-Andres (3-4) has put together a two game win streak. Matt Forte put in the best game of his season, and Eddie Lacy is picking up the slack from GB’s holes at WR. Doug Martin’s shoulder injury may be a blessing in disguise for Jon allowing him to just move on from this first round bust.

9. Tebow's Tingle (3-4) got her revenge this week. Frank Gore had his best game of the year, and Russell Wilson seems back to his 2012 self and should only be better with the return of Percy Harvin. Adrian Peterson’s 2nd straight mediocre performance might be an unfortunate trend while the Vikings keep trying out QBs.

10. Touchdown Yeezus (2-5) suffered from a major injury for the 2nd straight week with Arian Foster leaving with only 1 point. Harry Douglas proved to be a decent substitute for the injured Atlanta WRs, Carolina dominated the Rams, and Gronk finally came back! He had a great game without scoring a TD, so things should be looking up for Anthony.

11. 50ShadesofRay(Lewis) (1-6) is on a 6 game losing streak and had 2 injured players in her starting line up. Enough said.

12. Lightning McCoy (1-6) lost her starting QB due to an early groin injury, and LeSean had a disappointing 11 pnt game. The bad new is that Krittika has lost 4 in a row; the good news is that Decker seems to be a most consistent deep threat for Denver, and Tom Brady won’t have many more weeks without throwing at least 1 TD to his buddy Gronk.

The next league event is Sunday, October 27th at 2pm for some pizza and fishbowl!

PS. Good luck to team EJW this week!

WEEK 6 RECAP

On the eve of rivalry week, let's revisit the standings after week 6.

1. DC Khaleesi’s (5-1) undefeated streak has come to end. Both Peyton Manning and Torrey Smith had their worst games of the year. Miranda’s running backs are still playing well, but we’ll see how Rivalry Week shakes out with a few (too many?) recent trades. Picking up Knowshon Moreno is turning out to have been a great decision from earlier this season, as Knowshon had the most points of any player on the team this week.

2. Love Me Harbaughs (5-1) is currently on a 5 game win streak. Tampa’s new QB Mike Glennon seems to have a man crush on Vincent Jackson, and Andre Ellington’s recent play may win him the starting job in Arizona. Betsy has pointed out that she WOULD be undefeated had it not been for a bonus-points win in the first week against Miranda, saying that she would have won if there weren’t bonus points. But there are bonus points, Betsy. There are.

3. Think Like A Manning (4-2) has the best score of the week. Lynch and Marshall continue to be at the top of their game, and the QB switch to Matthew Stafford hasn’t slowed this team. Persistent trade proposals are finally paying off as Dana’s team is becoming one of the strongest in the league.

4. TEAM(youbetta)TWERK! (4-2) got their groove back this week. Reggie Bush rebounded from last week, and Justin Blackmon continues to be in contention for Best Waiver Pick Up of the Year. Jamie just needs Steven Jackson to get healthy to stay in the win column. Jamie exceeded his projected points by 20, nearly doubling the score of his opponent, Krittika. This week Jamie will have 10 bonus points from a HUGE trade with Billy, but the joke’s on those two because they will both get bonus points, rendering said points pretty pointless.

5. Sunday Funday’s (4-2) team is led by the Washington NFL Team’s RGIII and Alfred Morris who have been good but unfortunately for Lauren not great. An early in-game injury to James Jones and a surprising scoring barrage from the Rams over the Houston D sealed the team’s fate. Sunday Funday will likely have a better Week 7 with tight end Tony Gonzalez back on the field.

6. Crannogmen (3-3) had a good week that would have only been better if Jimmy Graham wasn’t left catchless with a possible injury. Kaepernick finally scored more than his projection albeit by a fraction of a point, but maybe he’s starting to live up to his high draft pick. Bringing in under 100 points, Luke had the lowest winning score of any team in the league.

7. Bukkickers (3-3) came into this week on a 2 game win streak. DeSean Jackson seems to be able to play with any QB in Philly, and Vernon Davis had the best scoring performance of the week. Billy’s tight end had an outstanding week, bringing in 34 points for his team. This is not the first time Billy’s tight end has scored points for him. (I’ll never get tired of these jokes.)

8. Double Ent-Andres (2-4) slayed DC Khaleesi’s dragon this week. Cam Newton continues his hot and cold season with a huge 4 TD game, and the Kansas City D sacked Terrelle Pryor 10 times...ouch. Jon Stern also saw a great game from Eddie Lacy, which made this loss that much more bitter for DC Khaleesi, who traded Lacy to Jon just last week. Watch out for that Jon Stern, you guys!

9. Touchdown Yeezus (2-4) has got the injury bug...bad...real bad. The team lost 3 players due to injuries this week, none of whom are expected to play next week, if ever again. Add Gronk’s continuing saga, and this team needs new players stat! Fire sale? With a couple trades on the horizon, Anthony’s team may have some shake-ups this week, and can hopefully help the team have a stronger week 7.

10. Tebow's Tingle (2-4) had a another Tebow-like week...mediocre to awful performances across the board. In a strange feat of scheduling, Amanda has a chance to avenge her loss to Dana in a rematch for Rivalry Week. Even though this team has experienced a couple losses, Amanda still has powerhouses Adrian Peterson and Victor Cruz, and undoubtedly the desire to come back from a loss will fuel this team into a strong week 7.

11. Lightning McCoy (1-5) is hoping that a new team name will bring new luck. The team had a terrible performance across the board, and without any receivers, Tom Brady continues to win on the football field but not in fantasy. Rivalry Week projected scores show a 50/50 chance for Krittika to edge out Luke, so it’s anyone’s game this week!

12. 50ShadesofRay(Lewis) (1-5) may have hit rock bottom with 3 inactive players in the starting line up. Allison’s running backs may have risen from the dead with Ridley and MJD both scoring in double digits, but this team needs some new blood. Watch out for some surprises from this team, as Allison is due for a comeback.

This week is RIVALRY WEEK!

This is the week where bragging rights are on the line with loved ones pitted against loved ones…and Betsy versus Jon Stern.

Each winner this week will receive an extra 30 points to their point total after all games have been played.

Good luck!

WEEK 5 RECAP

Welcome to the Week 5 Recap! Full of triumphant wins, devastating losses, and a good shuffling of the standings. Don't forget to check your byes this week and set your lineup! Now, without further ado, the recap:

DC KHALEESI (5-0) rode the Broncos wave again this week, keeping the winning streak alive with a victory over the Crannogmen (in a battle of Game of Thrones characters/nerd street cred). DC Khaleesi continues her dominance with strong play from Peyton and a solid group of running backs. A kicker who scores 18 points also doesn’t hurt.

SUNDAY FUNDAY (4-1) shot into second place this week. Fred Jackson continues to piss off CJ Spiller owners by staying fantasy relevant, and a great core of receivers have led to SunFun’s climb to the top. Julio Jones’ season-ending injury might worry most owners but not when you have Alshon Jeffrey and the other J. Jones on your bench.

LOVE ME HARBAUGHS (4-1) climbed into third place this week, edging out Tebow’s Tingle. The team is doing well despite an injured running back core. Pierre Thomas takes the fantasy zombie award this week, coming back from the dead with a huge 25 point game. TY Hilton’s big game brings up a tough question of whether or not to start both Indy receivers together.

THINK LIKE A MANNING (3-2) survived a scare with Michael Vick’s not so shocking injury to win this week. TLAM wisely also has Matthew Stafford waiting in the wings. A trade with Bukkickers for Hakeem Nicks paid off this week, with Nicks bringing in 18.7 points and TLAM winning 10 extra bonus points.

TEAM(youbetta)TWERK (3-2) fell from second place to fifth this week, losing to Touchdown Yeezus by the largest margin of victory in the league this season. Team Twerk did make a great call starting Justin Blackmon just off a suspension for a huge 22 point performance although mostly on one play. A lackluster performance from the rest of the team including Aaron Rodgers ultimately led to a loss from the fantasy gods.

Speaking of TOUCHDOWN YEEZUS (2-3), this team benefited greatly from the best fantasy game of the year: Broncos vs. Cowboys. Tony Romo was the fantasy stud of the week before throwing the game losing interception. Riding down from heaven on a white bronco, (Orange) Julius Thomas capitalized on the scoring fest, and Chris Johnson finally scored his first touchdown of the year.

TEBOW’S TINGLE (2-3) has hit the skids with a 3rd straight loss. The team lost by less than 10 points despite a mediocre performance across the board. Russell Wilson continues his rocky play. With Adrian Peterson coming back, hopefully this team will overcome the curse of its name: Tebow ow ow ow

Fun fact: the CRANNOGMEN (2-3) have outscored their projected points every week this season but sadly still lost. Dez Bryant and Jimmy Graham are playing great, but drafting the underperforming Kaepernick and CJ Spiller have left the Crannogmen, well, at a loss.

BUKKICKERS (2-3) won this week despite a late scratch of Calvin Johnson, whose knee injury left him on the bench. Ray Rice seems back healthy and a late TD pass to Vernon Davis sealed the win. Julio Jones’ season-ending injury may be a cause for concern for Matt Ryan owners though.

DOUBLE ENT-ANDRES (1-4) were not helped by the super strong performance and trade bonus points from the Bukkickers this week. The team’s top receivers suffered from shitty QB play. Speaking of QBs, Cam Newton continues to play like Clark Kent. Double Ent-Andres are looking upgrade their TE position with a trade this week for Julius Thomas.

KRITTIKA’S TEAM (1-4) was cursed by Tom Brady this week, who ended his streak of 52 straight games with a TD pass. Pulling Rueben Randle and Jay Cutler off the bench would have helped, as the two players scored nearly 50 points combined. Blair Walsh can’t be blamed for his zero since he was on a bye and has sweet dance moves.

It’s been a tough year for 50SHADESOFRAY(Lewis) (1-4). Stevan Ridley was out for this game, and starting TE Owen Daniels is now out for the next 8 weeks. Another misstep was leaving Cecil Shorts on the bench, so 50Shades will need to scan the waiver wire and trading block for some new blood.

The next League event will be October 20, with something outdoorsy tbd. Have a good week everyone!
